The spread, or slump flow, of SCC ranges from 18-32 inches (455-810 mm) based on the requirements of the project. Viscosity is controlled by designing a mix ideally suited to the application.
High Early Strength Concrete
Throughout South Dakota and across the region, keeping roadways in good condition with a minimum of traffic disruption is an ongoing effort. High early strength concrete for new pavements, full-depth repairs, and other patches on roadways is one solution that is increasingly used to get roads open quickly.
There is some concern about the long-term durability of this product if roadways are opened or reopened too early, In some cases, excessive shrinking, cracking or other environmental conditions have caused early deterioration of full-depth repairs and slab replacements.

Lightweight concrete is often the application of choice to reduce the dead load of a concrete structure, allowing the structural designer to reduce the size of architectural elements like columns, footings, and other load-bearing structures. By using this unique concrete mix, you reduce the need for steel reinforcements and lower the overall volume of concrete required, which can result in lower overall costs.
This special formula for use in structural applications is made with lightweight aggregates, provides a better fire rating, and provides improved insulating outcomes for wall elements than normal weight concrete. While it may be lighter in weight, there are mixes available with the same strength as normal weight.

Choosing the right grout is as important as choosing the other concrete materials for your building project.
The terms grout and mortar and often incorrectly used interchangeably. Unlike mortar, grout does not necessarily contain aggregate and is delivered in a pourable consistency. Grout is used to fill spaces and provide continuity between building elements, and in some cases such as in reinforced masonry construction, will act in a structural capacity.
There are many types of grout, which is often identified by its application. Choosing the right grout and using it properly can improve fire ratings, acoustic performance, and blast resistance.
At Concrete Materials, we consider all the specifications of a job before recommending grout ideal for your application including those with and without aggregate, ensuring the proper consistency, fluidity, and stability.
Commonly comprised of combinations of cement, water, fine aggregate, and fly ash or slag, flowable fill was initially developed to resolve problems associated with poorly compacted soil or granular fill. More recently, and after much research and development, more a more robust fill is available that performs better in multiple applications including bedding and backfill for utility trenches, paving subbase, bridge abutment, and retaining wall backfill.
Due to new laws passed by the EPA, flowable fill is now being used more frequently to fill abandoned tanks, tunnels, mines, sewers, and other underground structures to improve environmental safety.
Higher strength mixtures can provide a bearing capacity similar to well-compacted soil, while lower strength mixes are better suited that require later excavatability. With no compaction required, flowable fill offers significant advantages over compacted back fill.
